What happened today:

Today is the day of the 80m Main Antenna, a simple Quarterwave Vertical with four Elevated Radials. We have been waiting so long because of the high tide of the water. The water had started to go back two days ago, so we decided it was safe now to put up the antenna. Remember, in the SSB part we lost some verticals in a nighttime fight to the Atlantic Ocean...

Left: The Vertical is going up; Right: The Vertical was coming down... (DK2OY says: "What do you see, Dieter, DL8OH?")

BTW: Someone asked me, if there was a secret, why one of the two Cushcraft 40-2CD was only six meters high. No secret, just no more towers and/or pipes left. But on the right side of the left picture you can see that the antenna is right on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. There were times that incoming (European) signals would be the strongest on that antenna, because of the high angles. But - most of the time we were listening on the Beverage antennas. This beam would just be used as a Backup transmitting antenna in case of a failure...

In the evening the 80m Vertical was tested on a local German chat frequency. After calling in as 5C8M someone said: "No, you cannot be 5C8M. You are much too loud." The antenna was now declared "working"...

DK2OY and DK8LV being "much too loud"...
